Campaigns
- Adeptus Mechanicus Campaign
Dawn of War 4's Adeptus Mechanicus campaign centers on an expedition into a Necron tomb on Kronus and a choice between siding with Magos Dominus Nulpherus-1 as Marshal Sek-Ix-23 or breaking ranks with the Technoarcheologist Potentia Delta-9. It was in the Oct 2026 preview build in full; its mission count is unpublished.
- Four Campaigns
Dawn of War 4 has four faction campaigns with more than 70 missions in total, playable solo or with a friend, and no single run sees every mission. Only the Ork campaign has a published count, 18 missions with 14 or 15 per run; campaign length in hours is not known as of Oct 31, 2026.
- Necron Campaign
Dawn of War 4's Necron campaign follows the Chronomancer Thothmek, whose forces wake and answer a mysterious signal from Kronus. It was not in the Oct 2026 preview build, so only its set-up is known, ahead of the Dec 3, 2026 launch.
- Ork Campaign
Dawn of War 4's Ork campaign makes you back either Warboss Gorgutz or Beastboss Guzcutta, with 18 missions in all and 14 or 15 in one run, per Jan Theysen. Previews name the missions Da Beastboss, Da Biggest Boss and Da Race, and the game is out Dec 3, 2026.
- Space Marine Campaign
Dawn of War 4's Space Marine campaign follows the Blood Ravens, stranded on Kronus, and the Dark Angels who answer their call for aid, with a choice of which Chapter to control. Only its prologue was in the Oct 2026 preview build, so its missions and length are not known.
Expansions
- Aftermath
Aftermath is a paid Dawn of War 4 campaign expansion that adds a new, fifth faction, placed at Summer 2027 on Steam's roadmap. As of Oct 31, 2026 the faction is unnamed, and Chaos is neither confirmed nor ruled out.
- Blood Ravens Story Prologue
Blood Ravens Story Prologue is a paid Dawn of War 4 expansion set before the main campaign, following a new Blood Ravens strike force to Aurelia. Steam's roadmap places it just before Spring 2027; it is included in the Commander Edition, and its solo price and exact date are not published.
Factions
- Adeptus Mechanicus
The Adeptus Mechanicus make their series debut in Dawn of War 4 as a quick, ranged, tech-heavy faction built around the Noosphere Network, which makes linked units stronger and cheaper. Their Commanders are Potentia Delta-9 and Skitarii Marshal Sek-Ix-23.
- Blood Ravens
The Blood Ravens are one of two playable Space Marine Chapters in Dawn of War 4, led by Captain Cyrus and Chief Librarian Jonah Orion. They return to Kronus, their old recruiting world, short of men and resources. Gabriel Angelos is left out on purpose.
- Commanders
Dawn of War 4 names 10 Commanders: four Space Marines (two per Chapter) and two each for Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. In campaigns they are story characters; elsewhere they are generic faction units picked before a match and usually produced mid-match.
- Dark Angels
The Dark Angels are a playable Space Marine sub-faction in Dawn of War 4, led by Chaplain Ezrael and Company Master Astoran, with the Deathwing and Ravenwing as Elite units. Lion El'Jonson is billed as the first playable Primarch in a video game, in a small role.
- Factions Compared
Dawn of War 4 launches with four factions: Space Marines (with two Chapters, Blood Ravens and Dark Angels), Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. No best faction can be named yet, because the game is not out and no balance data or tier list exists.
- Necrons
The Necrons in Dawn of War 4 expand slowly from a Tomb Citadel, spreading a Power Matrix that earns Dominion and strengthens units, and bring fallen units back free through Resurrection Galleries. Their Commanders are Chronomancer Thothmek and Ahmnok.
- Orks
The Orks in Dawn of War 4 win through Waaagh!, a meter filled by Ork numbers and kills, plus cheap units, cheap armed buildings and fast Veterancy. Their Commanders are Warboss Gorgutz and Beastboss Guzcutta, and their Stratagems are free.
- Space Marines
The Space Marines in Dawn of War 4 are an elite faction of few, expensive units that grow through gear choices during a match. They field two Chapters and four Commanders, drop buildings from orbit, and move by Drop Pod and Thunderhawk Relay.
- Units List
Dawn of War 4 has more than 100 units and buildings, per KING Art, but no complete official list and no stats exist as of Oct 31, 2026. This page lists every unit a source has named, by faction, with KING Art's spelling where it differs from Wargamer's April roster.
Gameplay
- Army Painter
Dawn of War 4's Army Painter lets you change your units' colors, decals and war gear, from dozens of presets or piece by piece, and share your designs. It works in every part of the game except the campaign.
- Base Building
Yes, Dawn of War 4 has base building, and KING Art calls the system very similar to the first game's. Buildings unlock units and research, and each of the four factions builds in its own way.
- Combat Director
The Combat Director is Dawn of War 4's animation system. It takes the series' sync kills, once only for final blows, and applies them to every combat animation by stitching snippets to fit each fight.
- Combat, Cover and Retreat
Dawn of War 4 gives squads cover, a retreat order and on-field reinforcement to preserve them and their veterancy. KING Art calls auto-reinforce the most powerful of the three and cover an optimization, not a deciding factor.
- Mods and Modding
Full mod support for Dawn of War 4 is not confirmed as of Oct 31, 2026. Jan Theysen said in Aug 2025 that the team intends to give creators modding tools, a free Mission Editor is on the 2027 roadmap, and Steam lists no Workshop.
- Resources and Territory
Dawn of War 4's two main resources are Requisition and Power, and you earn them by capturing, holding and upgrading points on the map. Orks add Waaagh! and Necrons add Dominion; no income numbers are published yet.
- Stratagems
Stratagems are Dawn of War 4's unlockable battlefield abilities, such as the Space Marines' Orbital Strike and the Necrons' Translocation Science. Every faction has a powerful one whichever Commander you pick, and no complete list is published yet.
Guides
- Beginners Guide
To start Dawn of War 4, play the two-mission tutorial prologue, then a campaign, capture resource points before anything else, and keep squads alive with cover, retreat and reinforcement. This pre-release guide comes from maker statements and previews, and will be updated after the Dec 3, 2026 launch.
- Which Faction to Play
Dawn of War 4 has no tier list until it launches on Dec 3, 2026. By taste, play Space Marines for few elite units, Orks for cheap swarms and aggression, Necrons for a slow unstoppable advance and Adeptus Mechanicus for ranged, networked bases. One preview found the last two harder to learn.
Modes
- Co-op
Yes, Dawn of War 4 has co-op: the campaign for two players, Last Stand for three, and team Skirmish against AI. Steam lists online co-op; local play and whether both players must own the game are not stated.
- Crusade Mode
Crusade Mode is Dawn of War 4's replayable endless campaign on a turn-based map of Kronus, and it arrives as a free update in 2027, not in the launch build. KING Art says a typical Crusade takes eight to ten hours.
- Last Stand
Last Stand is Dawn of War 4's three-player co-op horde mode, where you pick one of five heroes, build a Strikeforce and survive deadlier waves. It returns from Dawn of War 2 and is in the launch game; KING Art's closer look is still to come.
- Multiplayer
Dawn of War 4 launches with 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 online multiplayer on 30 maps and three game types, with Quick Match defaulting to Annihilation. Ranked play, crossplay and final balance are not confirmed as of Oct 31, 2026.
- Skirmish
Skirmish is Dawn of War 4's custom battle mode against AI, with dozens of settings, four game types and up to five AI opponents, and you can team up with a friend. Whether it works without an internet connection is not stated.
Overview
- Characters and Voice Cast
Dawn of War 4's published voice cast includes Steve Blum as Cyrus, Brian Drummond returning as Gorgutz, Aaron Neil as Jonah Orion, Alistair Petrie as The Lion and Ben Whitehead as Nulpherus-1. KING Art named 16 performers on Aug 5, 2026; Ahmnok's voice is not among them.
- Closed Beta and Playtests
Dawn of War 4's closed beta ran Oct 21 to 26, 2026, after two closed alphas in Nov and Dec 2025, and it is over. No open beta or demo has been announced as of Oct 31, 2026, so the next way to play is the launch, Nov 30 with the Commander Edition or Dec 3, 2026.
- Dawn of War 4

- KING Art Games
KING Art Games is the independent studio in Bremen, Germany, making Dawn of War 4, published by Deep Silver, a division of PLAION. It made the RTS Iron Harvest, and Dawn of War 4 is the first main game in the series not by Relic; no maker has published a reason for the move.
- Previews and Reception
Dawn of War 4 has no reviews and no Metacritic or OpenCritic score as of Oct 31, 2026; the game is out Dec 3, 2026. What exists are previews of a pre-release build with two full campaigns, mostly warm, with Gameswelt among those naming problems.
- Release Date and Launch Time
Dawn of War 4 comes out on Dec 3, 2026 on Steam, and Commander Edition owners can play from Nov 30, 2026. As of Oct 31, 2026 no launch hour and no pre-load date have been announced for either day.
- Story and Setting
Dawn of War 4 is set on the planet Kronus about 200 years after Dark Crusade, cut off by the Great Rift, where Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and the Adeptus Mechanicus collide over a buried Necron complex. Black Library author John French co-wrote the story with KING Art, and the game is out Dec 3, 2026.
- System Requirements and Platforms
Dawn of War 4's system requirements had not been published as of Oct 31, 2026; Steam says only that it needs a 64-bit processor and operating system. It is announced for Windows on Steam only, with no console, Mac or native Linux version, and no stated Steam Deck status.
- Year One Roadmap
Dawn of War 4's Year One roadmap runs through 2027 with free updates (Crusade Mode, four map packs, the Mission Editor, Lord Ahmnok and Guzcutta for Last Stand and Crusade) and two paid expansions, Blood Ravens Story Prologue and Aftermath. Steam gives no exact dates and marks it subject to change.
The Series
- Chaos Rising
Chaos Rising is the 2010 expansion to Dawn of War 2, set a year later in Sub-Sector Aurelia, where the Blood Ravens fight the Black Legion and traitors in their own Chapter while their squads slowly fall to Chaos. It also introduced Jonah Orion, a Commander in Dawn of War 4.
- Dark Crusade
Dark Crusade is the 2006 Dawn of War expansion set on Kronus, which added the Tau and Necrons for seven armies and a turn-based conquest map. It is the highest-scored game in the series, and Dawn of War 4 returns to Kronus about 200 years later, treating a Space Marine victory as canon.
- Dawn of War 2
Dawn of War 2 is Relic's 2009 sequel, which dropped base building for a small squad of leveling Space Marines, cover, loot and a co-op campaign, and added the Last Stand mode that returns in Dawn of War 4. It is sold today as the Anniversary Edition.
- Dawn of War 2004
The original Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War came out on Sep 20, 2004, made by Relic Entertainment and published by THQ, with four armies and a Space Marine campaign on the planet Tartarus. Today it is sold as the Definitive Edition or the Anniversary Edition.
- Dawn of War 3
Dawn of War 3 came out on Apr 27, 2017. Critics gave it a respectable 77, but its mix of real-time strategy and MOBA ideas lost players, Relic stopped major content within a year, and Dawn of War 4 returned to the first game as its model.
- Dawn of War Games in Order
The Dawn of War series runs Dawn of War (2004), Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, Soulstorm, Dawn of War 2 (2009), Chaos Rising, Retribution, Dawn of War 3 (2017) and Dawn of War 4 (Dec 3, 2026), plus the 2025 Definitive Edition of the first game. None of them is required before Dawn of War 4, which KING Art calls a new story.
- Definitive Edition
Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War: Definitive Edition is Relic's remaster of the first game and its three expansions, released Aug 14, 2025 on Steam and GOG at $29.99. It adds 4K, 64-bit and a mod manager but does not rebalance the game; the cheaper Anniversary Edition is the unremastered bundle.
- Retribution
Retribution is the standalone 2011 expansion to Dawn of War 2, with campaigns for six races and the return of an army and resources in single-player. It was the last Dawn of War game before THQ collapsed and Sega bought Relic, six years ahead of Dawn of War 3.
- Soulstorm
Soulstorm is the third and last expansion to the original Dawn of War, released in March 2008 and made by Iron Lore Entertainment, not Relic. It adds Sisters of Battle and Dark Eldar for nine armies, sets the campaign across the Kaurava system, and has the series' lowest Metascore, 73.
- Winter Assault
Winter Assault is the first expansion to the original Dawn of War, released Sep 21, 2005 by Relic and THQ. It adds the Imperial Guard and two campaigns, Order and Disorder, fought over a Titan on Lorn V, and is sold today inside the Definitive and Anniversary Editions.
