Four Campaigns
Dawn of War 4 has four faction campaigns with more than 70 missions in total, playable solo or with a friend, and no single run sees every mission. Only the Ork campaign has a published count, 18 missions with 14 or 15 per run; campaign length in hours is not known as of Oct 31, 2026.
Dawn of War 4 has four campaigns and more than 70 missions in total, per KING Art, one campaign each for the Space Marines, Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus, playable solo or with a friend. Choices on a world map decide which missions you fight, so one run does not see them all: the Ork campaign has 18 missions, of which a run sees 14 or 15, Jan Theysen told IGN. KING Art has given no campaign length in hours as of Oct 31, 2026. All of this comes from maker statements and pre-release builds; the game is out Dec 3, 2026, and this page will be updated with what ships. The clip is the Oct 2026 Game Overview Trailer.

The four campaigns
Each campaign has its own storyline, and all four feed one overall story. KING Art wanted each to feel like its own faction, and two of them split around a choice of leader.
| Campaign | Start | Main choice | In the Oct 2026 preview build |
|---|---|---|---|
| Space Marine Campaign | Blood Ravens stranded on Kronus, Dark Angels answer a call for aid | Blood Ravens or Dark Angels | Prologue only |
| Ork Campaign | Gorgutz crash-lands where Guzcutta rules | Back Gorgutz or Guzcutta | Yes, in full |
| Necron Campaign | A signal from Kronus wakes Thothmek's forces | Not published | No |
| Adeptus Mechanicus Campaign | An expedition breaches a Necron tomb | Marshal Sek-Ix-23 or Potentia Delta-9 | Yes, in full |

How many missions
The figures from KING Art and Theysen fit together once you separate total missions from missions in one run:
| Figure | What it counts | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 70+ | All campaign missions | KING Art, Aug 5, 2026 |
| 30+ | The Ork and Adeptus Mechanicus campaigns together, across branches | KING Art, Oct 23, 2026 |
| 18 | The Ork campaign in full | GamingBolt, from IGN, Oct 7, 2026 |
| 14 or 15 | One run of the Ork campaign | GamingBolt, from IGN, Oct 7, 2026 |
| About 12 to 15 | One run of a campaign, as Theysen put it in 2025 | GamesRadar+ via Yahoo, Aug 20, 2025 |
If 70 were split evenly, each campaign would have about 18 missions, matching the Ork count, but that is arithmetic and not a figure from KING Art. Theysen also said each campaign is bigger than the whole campaign of the first Dawn of War, and that some missions are optional.
Theysen claims more single-player content than any other RTS at launch, allowing that someone may find a bigger one from the 1990s. That is the studio's claim, and it cannot be tested until the game is out.
How long the campaigns are
KING Art has not published a length in hours for any campaign, and as of Oct 31, 2026 no preview gives a figure for a whole campaign. Any number found elsewhere is an estimate. This page will add measured times after launch.
The world map and branching choices
Between missions you work from a world map of Kronus. Missions appear across its territories and you may have to pick which to tackle, and KING Art's example has consequences: defend a Manufactorum Complex rather than the Hive City, and one may survive at the cost of the other. While you choose, story figures talk to each other and explain what your decision means. IGN says these world map dialogues come from Dawn of War 2.
You cannot play every mission in one run, and Theysen hinted that decisions in one campaign can affect later campaigns. KING Art has not said how far that carries, or whether progress in one campaign carries into another. The clip is IGN's Jan 2026 hands-on.
Cutscenes and storytelling
Each campaign opens with a CGI cutscene, backed by in-engine cutscenes and dialogue inside missions. PCGamesN reported more than 40 minutes of cinematic cutscenes in Aug 2025. Who appears in them is on Characters and Voice Cast. The clip is the Dec 2025 Story Trailer, marked as a mix of in-engine and CGI cutscenes.
Difficulty
The campaign opens with two tutorial missions, then builds difficulty and tech trees gradually, Theysen told IGN. In the Oct 2026 preview build, ComicBook found campaign missions more forgiving than Skirmish, whose AI it found almost unfairly hard on medium. Heroes revive near your troops after dying in the campaign, per Gameswelt's preview build. KING Art has not published a list of campaign difficulty levels.
Campaign balance is also its own thing: KING Art balances campaign and multiplayer separately, so a unit can be very strong in the story and weaker online. The Army Painter does not apply here either; it works everywhere except the campaign (Army Painter).
The Astra Militarum prologue
The game does not open with a faction campaign. KING Art's preview build had Astra Militarum and Space Marine prologues, which Press Start describes as two missions before the Ork and Adeptus Mechanicus campaigns open. IGN called it a brief tutorial with the Space Marines and Imperial Guard, coming before the Ork campaign in story order. Governor Augusta Vorn is a named character, but no source says what part she plays in it.
This is not the paid Blood Ravens Story Prologue, which is a separate DLC on Aurelia. The Astra Militarum are not a playable faction outside these missions as far as KING Art has announced: its four factions do not include them.
Which campaign to play first
In the preview build the Ork and Adeptus Mechanicus campaigns could be played in either order, and Press Start suggests Prologue, then Orks, then Adeptus Mechanicus. KING Art has not published a recommended order for all four. Advice by faction is on Which Faction to Play.
Co-op and the Lion
Every mission is planned to support full co-op at launch, per Press Start's preview, and the campaign is for two (Co-op). The Lion, billed as the first playable Primarch in any video game, has a small role: Gamepressure reports Theysen saying two cutscenes and one mission. More is on Dark Angels. The clip shows the Lion in the same trailer.
After launch
The roadmap adds Aftermath, a paid expansion that continues the campaign story, and Crusade Mode, a free replayable campaign mode in 2027 and not part of the four story campaigns. See Year One Roadmap.
