Dark Angels
The Dark Angels are a playable Space Marine sub-faction in Dawn of War 4, led by Chaplain Ezrael and Company Master Astoran, with the Deathwing and Ravenwing as Elite units. Lion El'Jonson is billed as the first playable Primarch in a video game, in a small role.
The Dark Angels are a playable sub-faction of the Space Marines in Dawn of War 4, not a fifth faction, and new to the series. They are led by Chaplain Ezrael and Company Master Astoran, and they add the Deathwing and Ravenwing as Elite units on top of what they share with the Blood Ravens. Their Primarch, Lion El'Jonson, is billed as the first playable Warhammer 40,000 Primarch in any video game, though only in a limited role. The clip is the official Game Overview Trailer.

How they differ from the Blood Ravens
KING Art says the two Chapters are similar in fighting ability and share many units, so Commanders make the biggest difference. Where the Blood Ravens fight undersupplied on Kronus, the Dark Angels keep their heaviest arms and armor, and their missions reflect that firepower. In the story they answer a call for aid, and KING Art says it is the first time two Chapters are playable in a Dawn of War campaign. Only the Space Marine prologue, not the whole Space Marine Campaign, was in the Oct 2026 preview build. The clip is the official Space Marines trailer.
Deathwing and Ravenwing
These are the two Elite units the Dark Angels have and the Blood Ravens do not, each tied to a Commander's style. The clip, from a creator's Oct 2026 preview match, shows bone-white Terminators in a fight.
- Deathwing. A slow but punishing frontline bulwark that takes apart heavy units with power fists, under Astoran.
- Ravenwing. Bikes built for hit-and-run lightning strikes, alongside Ezrael.
Costs, unlock points and stats are not published as of Oct 31, 2026.
Chaplain Ezrael and Company Master Astoran
Ezrael leads highly mobile troops on a Raider-pattern bike. Astoran wears Terminator armor and moves slowly, which KING Art sums up as "a powerful one-man army". Both bring a unique Stratagem, unnamed so far. The choice is therefore fast raids or a heavy push, though neither has been tested publicly: the closed beta stays under NDA. See Commanders.
Lion El'Jonson
KING Art calls The Lion the very first playable Warhammer 40,000 Primarch in any video game, voiced by Alistair Petrie. It also sets limits: he has "a small but pivotal role" in the battle for Kronus and is not playable in every mission.
Whether he appears outside the campaign is not known as of Oct 31, 2026. Wargamer's April roster lists Dark Angels as the Space Marine units plus Lion El'Jonson, but does not say where he can be used, and it predates later posts.
Frequently asked questions
Are the Dark Angels a separate faction in Dawn of War 4? No. Deep Silver calls them a playable sub-faction of the Space Marines, and Dawn of War 4 counts four factions in all.
Can you play Lion El'Jonson in Dawn of War 4? Yes, in a limited way: KING Art gives him a small but pivotal role in the campaign, not every mission. Whether he appears in other modes is not known as of Oct 31, 2026.
What are the Deathwing and Ravenwing in Dawn of War 4? They are Elite units only the Dark Angels get. Deathwing is a slow frontline force with power fists under Astoran, and Ravenwing rides bikes for hit-and-run strikes with Ezrael.
Who leads the Dark Angels in Dawn of War 4? Chaplain Ezrael, voiced by Alex Jordan, and Company Master Astoran, voiced by Ashley Zhangazha. Both are playable Commanders.

Space Marine CampaignDawn of War 4's Space Marine campaign follows the Blood Ravens, stranded on Kronus, and the Dark Angels who answer their call for aid, with a choice of which Chapter to control. Only its prologue was in the Oct 2026 preview build, so its missions and length are not known. -
CommandersDawn of War 4 names 10 Commanders: four Space Marines (two per Chapter) and two each for Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. In campaigns they are story characters; elsewhere they are generic faction units picked before a match and usually produced mid-match.

Adeptus MechanicusThe Adeptus Mechanicus make their series debut in Dawn of War 4 as a quick, ranged, tech-heavy faction built around the Noosphere Network, which makes linked units stronger and cheaper. Their Commanders are Potentia Delta-9 and Skitarii Marshal Sek-Ix-23.

Factions ComparedDawn of War 4 launches with four factions: Space Marines (with two Chapters, Blood Ravens and Dark Angels), Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. No best faction can be named yet, because the game is not out and no balance data or tier list exists.
