Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 launches on Dec 3, 2026Date announced, hour not: KING Art and Deep Silver have given no launch hour as of Oct 31, 2026, so this counts to the start of the day in UTC. Commander Edition from Nov 30, 2026.

Space Marines

The Space Marines in Dawn of War 4 are an elite faction of few, expensive units that grow through gear choices during a match. They field two Chapters and four Commanders, drop buildings from orbit, and move by Drop Pod and Thunderhawk Relay.

The Space Marines in Dawn of War 4 win with a small number of very effective, relatively expensive units, not with army size, per KING Art. Their flavor is equipment: you make gear and upgrade choices through a match, so each unit grows and is worth keeping alive. They are the only faction with two playable Chapters, the Blood Ravens and the Dark Angels, and the only one with four Commanders. All of this comes from maker statements and pre-release builds; the game is out on Dec 3, 2026. The clip is the official Game Overview Trailer.

How they play

Deep Silver's site tells Space Marine players to harass early, since they usually win one-on-one fights, then upgrade units and keep them alive with on-field reinforcements, retreating when needed. A small army cannot be everywhere, so it also advises securing points with fortifications and moving fast with Reserves and the Thunderhawk Relay. The clip is KING Art's Jul 2026 Battlefield Report.

The weakness follows from the strength. Opponents are told to force many fights to stretch the force thin, trade efficiently, and deny Resource Points, Power above all. KING Art's Battlefield Report sums up one matchup: overwhelming firepower, but Orks left to build numbers turn the fight quickly.

Buildings from orbit

Space Marine structures drop from orbit anywhere within vision, and take longer to deploy the farther they land from the headquarters; enemies can see where they will land. Upgrading a structure unlocks more units and research, which KING Art calls the most straightforward of the four factions. The Hammerfall Bunker is one named fortification. See Base Building for how the factions differ. The clip is the official Space Marines trailer.

Drop Pods and the Thunderhawk Relay

Few units means a problem of reach, and KING Art names three answers.

Units and Wargear

KING Art has described only some units in detail; the fuller roster, including Wargamer's pre-launch list, is on the Units List.

Unit What is known
Intercessors Bolt Rifle swaps to Auto Bolt Rifle or Stalker Bolt Rifle, or adds an auxiliary grenade launcher
Intercessor Sergeant Power Sword and Hand Flamer against groups; Thunder Hammer and Plasma Pistol against heavier targets
Infiltrators Invisible at a distance from enemies; capture points
Eliminators Invisible at a distance from enemies; snipe from range
Redemptor Dreadnought War machine housing a badly wounded Marine
Deathwing Dark Angels only: slow, power fists against heavy units
Ravenwing Dark Angels only: bikes for hit-and-run strikes

Stratagems

Each of the four Space Marine Commanders brings a unique Stratagem, but KING Art has not said which brings which. Two are named. The Thunderhawk Bombing Run burns away what lies in its path across half the screen, and the Orbital Strike ignites a huge map area, which KING Art calls arguably one of the strongest in the game. Previews of an August 2025 build call a similar ability Orbital Bombardment; whether it is the same one is not confirmed. More on the Stratagems page.

Commanders

Commander Chapter Style Voice

Chief Librarian Jonah Orion Blood Ravens Psychic warfare that sows chaos Aaron Neil
Chaplain Ezrael Dark Angels Highly mobile, on a Raider-pattern bike Alex Jordan
Company Master Astoran Dark Angels Terminator armor, a slow one-man army Ashley Zhangazha

In the campaign

The Space Marine Campaign uses both Chapters. The Blood Ravens fight short of resources, in smaller skirmishes and reconnaissance behind the lines, while the Dark Angels' missions reflect their access to much heavier firepower. Army colors for other Chapters come through the Army Painter, usable everywhere except the campaign.

Not known yet

As of Oct 31, 2026, no costs, damage, health or build times are published for any Space Marine unit, and neither a full Stratagem list nor a full Wargear list exists. The closed beta is under NDA.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Space Marines good in Dawn of War 4? KING Art designed them to usually win one-on-one fights, at the price of few units and high costs. No balance data exists until Dawn of War 4 launches on Dec 3, 2026.

How do Drop Pods work in Dawn of War 4? You ready units as reserves in orbit instead of producing them on the field, then bring them down by Drop Pod. GameWatcher says Reserve troops cost more and can land anywhere within vision range.

What is the Thunderhawk Relay in Dawn of War 4? It is a Space Marine building: units enter it and a Thunderhawk redeploys them elsewhere on the map. KING Art says it works best on larger maps.

How do Space Marine buildings work in Dawn of War 4? They drop from orbit anywhere within vision, taking longer the farther they land from your headquarters. Enemies can see where they will land.

Which Chapters can you play in Dawn of War 4? The Blood Ravens and the Dark Angels. Other Chapters' colors can be applied with the Army Painter outside the campaign.
