Dawn of War 4 launches on Dec 3, 2026 with 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 multiplayer across 30 maps and three game types, with Quick Match defaulting to Annihilation. All four factions play in it. As of Oct 31, 2026 KING Art has not said whether there is a ranked ladder, and the only outside test, the Oct 21 to 26 closed beta, is under NDA, so nothing here comes from it. The clip is the Oct 2026 Game Overview Trailer.

KING Art's Battlefield Reports show matches in play: Space Marines against Orks and Necrons against Adeptus Mechanicus in 1v1, 1v1 Annihilation with Orks against Necrons, and 2v2 Team Domination with all four factions, which KING Art says has more units and larger battles. Territory and scoring are covered on Resources and Territory. The clip is KING Art's Jul 2026 Battlefield Report, captured from multiplayer.
Commanders in multiplayer
Commanders outside the campaigns are generic faction units, chosen before the match along with your faction and starting position. By default you produce one from the headquarters for a cost, usually mid-match after some unlocks. Match settings can make them a starting unit or disable them.
Balance plan
Senior Game Designer Elliott Verbiest says the first pillar is showing factions as the setting portrays them, and for multiplayer keeping play fair with minimal compromise on that. He admits that asymmetry is especially hard outside 1v1 and that internal testing cannot match players at launch, so the plan is to gather data, prioritize the biggest issues and explain changes, with balancing continuing after launch.
Campaign and multiplayer are balanced separately, so a unit that shines in the story may be toned down online. There is no tier list, because no one can yet publish results from the closed beta; see Factions Compared and Which Faction to Play.
The closed beta ran 1v1 Skirmish throughout and 1v1 Multiplayer in scheduled sessions, to evaluate balance across the factions. Details are on Closed Beta and Playtests.
Skill and micro
KING Art's answer on deathballs names anti-mass weapons, Wargear and Stratagems; its micro list is positioning, tying up ranged units in melee and timing abilities. The mechanics are on Combat, Cover and Retreat and Stratagems. Custom hotkeys were being built in Dec 2025, and Press Start's Oct 2026 build has configurable hotkeys and a resizable HUD. Your Army Painter colors can be used outside the campaign. The clip, from KING Art's Jul 2026 Battlefield Report, shows Scarabs tying up ranged units in melee.
Replays and observer
Verbiest confirmed replays and an observer mode, but said they may come after launch, in Dec 2025, as PCGamesN reported. No date has followed as of Oct 31, 2026.
After launch
The Steam roadmap lists four free Map Packs during 2027, and calls its windows subject to change. See Year One Roadmap. Whether a map pack's maps all reach multiplayer is not stated.

Resources and TerritoryDawn of War 4's two main resources are Requisition and Power, and you earn them by capturing, holding and upgrading points on the map. Orks add Waaagh! and Necrons add Dominion; no income numbers are published yet.
-
CommandersDawn of War 4 names 10 Commanders: four Space Marines (two per Chapter) and two each for Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. In campaigns they are story characters; elsewhere they are generic faction units picked before a match and usually produced mid-match.
-
Factions ComparedDawn of War 4 launches with four factions: Space Marines (with two Chapters, Blood Ravens and Dark Angels), Orks, Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. No best faction can be named yet, because the game is not out and no balance data or tier list exists. -
Which Faction to PlayDawn of War 4 has no tier list until it launches on Dec 3, 2026. By taste, play Space Marines for few elite units, Orks for cheap swarms and aggression, Necrons for a slow unstoppable advance and Adeptus Mechanicus for ranged, networked bases. One preview found the last two harder to learn. -
Closed Beta and PlaytestsDawn of War 4's closed beta ran Oct 21 to 26, 2026, after two closed alphas in Nov and Dec 2025, and it is over. No open beta or demo has been announced as of Oct 31, 2026, so the next way to play is the launch, Nov 30 with the Commander Edition or Dec 3, 2026.
-
Combat, Cover and RetreatDawn of War 4 gives squads cover, a retreat order and on-field reinforcement to preserve them and their veterancy. KING Art calls auto-reinforce the most powerful of the three and cover an optimization, not a deciding factor.
