Commander Edition
The Dawn of War 4 Commander Edition is the $89.99 edition that adds a 3-Day Early Unlock from Nov 30, 2026, the paid Blood Ravens Story Prologue and Aftermath expansions, and the digital soundtrack to the base game. On Steam it was $80.99 on pre-order on Nov 1, 2026.
The Dawn of War 4 Commander Edition adds a 3-Day Early Unlock, Blood Ravens Story Prologue, Aftermath and the digital soundtrack to the base game, for a list price of $89.99 / EUR 89.99 / GBP 74.99, per PLAION, or $80.99 on Steam's 10% pre-order offer on Nov 1, 2026. Its owners can play from Monday, Nov 30, 2026, three days before everyone else; the game launches for all on Dec 3, 2026. The two expansions come out in 2027, so most of what the extra $30 buys arrives after launch. The Standard Edition is compared side by side on Editions and Price.

What is in the Commander Edition?
Deep Silver lists four things on top of the base game:
- 3-Day Early Unlock: play from Nov 30, 2026 instead of Dec 3. It is the full launch game, not a beta or a demo.
- Blood Ravens Story Prologue: a paid story expansion following a Blood Ravens strike force to Aurelia, placed just before Spring 2027 on Steam's roadmap.
- Aftermath: a paid campaign expansion with a new playable faction, placed at Summer 2027 on the same roadmap. The faction had not been named as of Nov 1, 2026.
- Digital soundtrack: the game's music. No track list or composer credit for it is published.
On Steam the Commander Edition package includes two items: the game and an entry called "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV - Year 1 Expansion", which is how Steam delivers the two expansions. That Year 1 Expansion entry says "Coming soon" with no date.
When does the Commander Edition unlock?
On Nov 30, 2026, but no hour has been announced. KING Art says Commander Edition owners can play three days early, from Nov 30, and Steam's button reads "Advance Access Starts Nov 30" with the line "play the game starting 3 days ahead of full release". Neither gives a time of day as of Nov 1, 2026; the dates and what is known about times are on Release Date and Launch Time.
This is Steam's Advance Access, not Early Access: the game is finished, and the Standard Edition simply starts later.
Is the Commander Edition worth it?
That cannot be worked out yet, because the expansions' own prices are unpublished. The list difference over the Standard Edition is $30 (EUR 30, GBP 25), and it buys three days of early play, two expansions arriving in 2027 and the soundtrack. Both expansions will also be sold separately, so a Standard owner can buy them later at a price nobody knows yet.
Things the Commander Edition does not change:
- Free updates reach every owner. Crusade Mode, the map packs, the Mission Editor and the new Last Stand and Crusade Commanders come free of charge; see Year One Roadmap and Crusade Mode.
- The launch content is the same: four factions, four campaigns, Skirmish, multiplayer and Last Stand.
- Multiplayer: Standard and Commander owners play together; nothing published splits them.
Can you upgrade from Standard to Commander?
No upgrade has been published as of Nov 1, 2026. Steam's page sells the two editions and nothing in between. On Steam, the Commander Edition is the base game plus the Year 1 Expansion entry, so a Standard owner would presumably buy the expansions on their own once they are priced, but neither maker has said so.
Prices by region
Steam's 10% pre-order offer applies to both editions and ends on Dec 3, 2026. A selection of Steam prices for the Commander Edition, read on Nov 1, 2026:
